Right to left: Mao Zedong, Zhu De, Zhou Enlai and Qin Bangxian, Yan'an, 1937. Qin Bangxian, aka Bo Gu, was killed in a plane crash in Shanxi in February, 1946. The other three - Mao, Zhou and Zhu - would go on to establish the Peoples Republic of China in 1949.
