Thailand: Mangroves and fishing boats in the evening light at Bang Saphan Yai, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, southern Thailand

Bang Saphan is a quiet fishing harbour with good rail and road links to both Bangkok and Chumphon, it dominates an attractive bay, Ao Bang Saphan. Like nearby Ban Krut, Bang Saphan’s beaches (at Bang Saphan Yai and, 16km or 10 miles to the south, Bang Saphan Noi) appeal mainly to a mid-range group of local and Bangkok Thais seeking peace and quiet away from the big cities.
