Japan: Scene from a Daoist legend in which Zhang Liang (Japanese Choryo) rescues a slipper from the Wei River for Huangshi Kung (Japanese Kosekiko). Yashima Gakutei (1786-1868), c. 1825

Yashima Gakutei was a Japanese artist and poet who was a pupil of both Totoya Hokkei and Hokusai. Gakutei is best known for his kyoka poetry and surimono woodblock works.
